Top 5 Wednesday | Favourite Character Tropes

Hi! It’s T5W time again, one week of my summer holidays already gone. We all like certain character origin stories -if you will- that are part of why you like a certain characters so much. Don’t deny it, I can see you silently wishing that was not the case but if it is, you don’t have to worry. I am going to share my favourite five character tropes, which is permanently going to exist somewhere on the internet forever.

Girly and badass protagonist

When it comes to the main characters, there is a plethora of books that make good use of the strong, masculine female lead, to the point that it is not very uncommon and after a while becomes boring and repetitive. Although where are the girls at, the Celeana Sardothian’s who like to go to balls and dress up as well as being assasins? Is it beyond their power to do both, to be both an assassin and a girly girl?

Evil one who means well

A morally ambiguous main character. He/she’s not a complete villain, but he/she’s not a ‘hero’ either, in retrospect.
Although this person might act like an ass towards the main protagonist, in the end you can’t deny their good intentions. 😗

Best friends who fall in love

Another cliché trope but if it is done well, it is very fulfilling for me to read. I like it best if this trope is used within a more complex storyline that doesn’t centre around romance because then there is a smaller chance of this trope not being overdone. When I read about best friends fall in love, it’s better and more often than not more enjoyable because they were friends before they were lovers, which makes for some good conversation.

Sarcastic realist

This character is more enjoyable to read about for me because they make good conversation with other characters and provide a well needed balance because I have found that they are mostly used to restore a sense of reality when other characters get in over their head. They also are very relatable but when done wrong come across as whiny and pessimistic.

That is a wrap for another Top 5 Wednesday! This fun weekly meme was created by Lainey over at GingerReadsLainey. If you want to join in the fun and be apart of the #T5WFAMILY you can find all the details at the GoodReads page.
